Rhinestones

At ERVY, we use rhinestones to embellish gymnastics leotards, unitards (also known as full bodysuits), rhythmic gymnastics dresses, and other gymnastics and competition attire. Rhinestones catch the light and reflect it back, making gymnastics clothing adorned with rhinestones appear enchanting and sparkling.

Some rhinestone history

One of the first convincing imitations of diamonds was developed by the Alsatian chemist and jeweler Georg Friedrich Strass (French: Georges Frédéric Strass). Thanks to his success, he was allowed to call himself the king’s jeweler since 1734. The term “pierres de strass” (stones from Strass) became popular in the German-speaking world and the abbreviation “Strass” became a synonym for diamond imitations. [Source: Wikipedia]

In English, crystals are also referred to as “rhinestones”, because the crystals cut by Strass came from the Rhine Valley. [Source: Wikipedia]

Did you know?

We use so-called hotfix rhinestones when manufacturing our gymnastics leotards. These crystals are coated with a glue that is activated at high temperatures. The application method of rhinestones can either be through heat transfer or ultrasonic welding.

Despite all care in the production and quality control of our gymnastics apparel, rhinestones can loose their fixation with the textile. In such case, we will send you single stones for replacement or take care of the repair in our workshop.

Sequins

Sequins are flat and very thin plates made of color reflecting foil. Sequins add shine and sparkle to gymnastics clothing. They are becoming more popular as they look almost like crystals and are more comfortable to wear. The application method of sequins is similar to rhinestones, using heat transfer.

Our sequins color card

The hologram effect of sequins can create a visually stunning and dynamic show of light and color when they reflect the stage lights. This can help to enhance the performance of the gymnast or dancer.

Why sequins?

For athletes with sensitive skin, sequins have the advantage of feeling very smooth and skin-friendly. In addition, depending on the sport, choreography, or exercise, sequins may be a better alternative to rhinestones. For example, in the case of friction caused by contact with sports equipment, sequins are more comfortable.
